"Damien, Cyrus walk your sister to Janette's house, do NOT let her go by herself understood" Mother said standing in from of me and my brother. She was standing with her hand on her hip, her usual pose for that matter. I nodded "Yes of course mother" I dipped my head slightly. Although Janette, Sky's best friend, lived just down the road mother didn't trust the neighborhood. Cyrus sighed "Moooooom why? She's old enough to walk herself!" he frowned. Mother shook her head, her brownish red hair was tied up in a high ponytail. "Don't argue Cyrus, she's only 6! Now go, I want you both back by dinner." The neighborhood was definitely not the place for a six year old to be wandering around. We didn't exactly have the cheerful, go next door to hang out, kind of neighborhood. Everyone kept to themselves, which was for the best. Cyrus gave up and turned brushing past me "Sky! Come on!" he shouted. I looked at mother "What's for dinner?" I asked peering into the kitchen. Mother smiled, that smile that could light up the gloomiest days, "Your favorite! Pepperoni pizza with that special sauce I use." I smiled "Cool! Where's father?" I then asked. Mother rolled her eyes playfully and turned me around "Stop procrastinating!" I smiled and hurried down the dark hallway. I reached the front door and opened it, Sky and Cyrus were already standing outside waiting. Cyrus looked at me and shook his head "Come on! I want to get this over with!" as usual he seemed nervous.
There's something that happened to him, the reason he hated even walking down the street. He was ganged up on by a group of guys. Not much older than him either. They beat him close to death, I arrived just in time. He was only 7 then, I eight. I can't remember much but the guys eventually left him when I threatened to post a picture of them on the internet. That shut them up. It was scary to see my brother half dead on the side of the road, he never told me why they beat him up. Sensitive topic I guess. "Damien? Hellooooo" Sky said waving her small hand in my face. I looked down at her and smiled, with some difficulty I picked her up "Come on then! We have a huge adventure ahead of us!" I shouted. Cyrus laughed and punched my arm lightly and took off running down the road. I set my little sister down, she chased after Cyrus her dark brown, curly hair flying behind her. I raced after them. Finally we reached the house, we rested for a second all out of breath. Sweat pouring down our faces from the evening run. The sky was just turning into a dark orange, shifting into a blue almost black color.
I looked at Sky seeing her bright, sky blue eyes shining with excitement. "OK now remember your manners, and be nice to Janette alright?" I smiled. Sky nodded eagerly racing up to the red front door. I felt a surge of happiness as I saw how excited she was. This was my favorite time of the day. The hot air would began cooling, the sun changing colors, and my little sister's happiness. Cyrus waited until Sky vanished inside the house. "Come on race you home!" Cyrus shoved me lightly, he took off running again. I sighed "Aw come on no fair!" I raced after him, our shoes pounding on the sidewalk. Cyrus was a football player, and athlete. He did every sport he could try. Even said he'd be a pro-football player someday. We slowed down as we neared the house, Cyrus glanced at me "Oh Matthew told me to tell you that he's drawing something for you! Guess its suppose to be special" Cyrus laughed. I looked at him thoughtfully, Matthew was my dearest family member. Our little brother, he was only three but had high hopes for his future.
Matthew was going to be a doctor, to help the wounded. I thought this was just so sweet, I mean come on what three year old wants to be a doctor? Anyways he likes to draw as well, and is already the smartest toddler ever. He could almost talk perfectly, and could count up to twenty. The alphabet seems to be the hardest for him though. Mother always says he looks a lot like me when I was his age. He has thick brown hair and chubby cheeks. His eyes are just odd though, one being black the other blue. However it doesn't affect him. Cyrus waved his hand in my face "Damien? Are you in wonderland again?" he smirked. I shook my head "Just thinking...oh! Before we go inside I want to tell you something!" We stopped right before we reached the front yard. "what?" Cyrus asked seeming to be bored with whatever I had to say already. "I have given up on the search for vampires!" Cyrus's face lit up by this. "Really? So no more 'i'm going to grandma's but really am heading into New York City to track down a vampire' crap?"
Yeah about the vampire thing...You see I have an obsession with vampires. Their darkness and power intrigues me. So you could say my obsession got out of hand, and at the age of twelve I left to grandma's house and went to New York City. Now you may be wondering why on earth my parents agreed to letting me go to 'grandma's house' by myself. Well our grandma lives a couple blocks away, and we're really not that far away from New York. So I did indeed to go to grandma's but then convinced her to take me to New York City to go shopping. Told her I wanted more art supplies, so she took me right to where I wanted. Its a long story how I managed to track down a vampire but I have my resources. While grandma was in the store I snuck out and spent all afternoon finding a vampire. Well I did...which I was grounded for later. My father threatened to throw me in an asylum if I ever mentioned vampires again. I guess vampires are hard to believe, however I know they exist.
"Damien? Dude what is wrong with you today?" Cyrus shook me. I blinked and shook my head "Come on I'm sure dinner's almost done." I raced across the front yard. Cyrus raced after me his shirt was soaked in sweat, I reached the front door and opened it. "We're back!" I called into the house. Cyrus came in after me "And he's done with the vampire stuff!" he shouted. I glared at him "You didn't have to say that" I muttered and walked further into the house. Silence followed, "Mother? Father? Matthew?" I called looking around. Cyrus and I exchanged confused glances. I looked in the kitchen to see the oven on and the pizza sitting on top of the stove. No one was there, I glanced up the stairs. Still no one.
That's when we arrived in the living room...to find our family dead. Mother was face down in the carpet blood oozing out of her neck. Father was in his chair , his head against his chest, blood everywhere. Then there was Matthew...sweet little Matthew. He was laid on the floor, crayon in his hand, head twisted in an awkward position. It was all a blur from there, Cyrus and I were stunned. I think he was crying, I screaming. Not sure what happened. I remember picking up a piece of paper laying next to Matthew. I was a picture of six stick figures holding hands. The words 'I love you Damien' scribbled roughly across the paper. My little brother drew me a picture of our family. We spent hours just crying unsure of what to do, confusion and terror clouded our judgement. That's when HE came. Christopher, a vampire. Christopher took his time explaining how Leanna, the vampire I found in New York, didn't like me rejecting her offer to become a vampire. She said I'd have to kill my family in order for her to turn me into a vampire. I refused and now she's sent her little pet to kill them for me. The house was dark by this time, the blood drying on the plush carpet. Christopher then changed us into vampires to make us suffer the consequences for all eternity.
My family is dead, because of me. Cyrus was turned into a vampire, because of me. I got my family killed. My little brother's future destroyed in just a few minutes. Everything taken from me, because of my mistake. My obsession has destroyed everything, and now I get to live all eternity with my brother hating my guts. My sister not even wanting to talk to me. My family gone...just like that. It shows how vampires can just take everything away from you. I got what I wanted, to be a murderous beast that has no remorse. That kills and enjoys it.
My family is gone...
